When the time comes to finish up with a liquid applicator for the season, it is important to store it correctly in order to protect the machine from premature wear.

The most obvious check list items include cleaning it up for storage, flushing the pump, and parking it in a secure location.

The easiest way to clean the outside of the machine is to power wash it. Keeping your implement clean protects the paint and prevents transferring mud and chemicals onto the floor of your shed.

When preparing the machine for storage, verify that the pressure gauge reads no remaining pressure and that all switches are off. Flush the pump by running recreational vehicle antifreeze through the system. This will ensure complete clean out of the pump and will help to keep the lines from freezing.

When parking your implement, consider overfilling the tires to prevent dry rot and put them on boards if possible.

Another important step in storing your liquid unit is preparing for the next season’s operations! Check safety features, including lights and chains. Look for leaky hoses or seals, put on replacement knives and check the whole machine for parts that are slightly damaged or bent.

Ordering parts from your local dealer at time of storage will help to prevent waiting for parts when it comes time to pull the implement out of the shed and put it back to work. When the machine is pulled out for the next season, flush the system with water before use.
