RSVP for July 2019 Mayor Transportation Town Halls
Mayor Stothert is holding
a series of Town Hall meetings this month, “A Road Map to Better Streets.”
The news release states that “These public meetings will give citizens the opportunity to participate in the development of a maintenance and improvement plan that will greatly improve the safety and longevity of our streets and reduce annual maintenance costs.” The Town Hall series will provide an overview of infrastructure needs, repair and maintenance, major construction projects, and current and future funding options.
We would love to have a large turnout at each Town Hall meeting to advocate for all modes of transportation to be considered.
RSVP for the Townhalls using the form below. Include your phone number and we'll send you a reminder.
Mode Shift Omaha talking points include:
Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) transparency. See our
CIP site for more details
. Here are 4 specific transparency improvements that the City should include in the CIP:
Each project's original schedule and original budget
Compare that to the current schedule and estimated cost (cost to date + current budget)
And explain variances
A note when projects receive more than their appropriated funds and there should be a published process to account for it.
The City has trouble maintaining our current streets, so we need to work together to reduce the wear & tear on the roads and the congestion that leads to requests for more & wider roads.
Adding lane miles leads to more cars and more paved surface area to maintain, which worsens the problem. The City should avoid adding lane miles.
Let's encourage people to get out of single occupancy vehicles and use more: carpools, transit, bikes, scooters, and their legs to walk around. The City needs:
a bike/pedestrian Coordinator
to provide dedicated funds for improving pedestrian and bike/scooter infrastructure to get more people using these modes.
to integrate sidewalks as transportation infrastructure. (

These investments are much more cost effective than lane widening and we get a healthier, more active community that is a better place for us all to live, work, and play!
